Edera Recognized as a 2026 Gartner® Cool Vendor

We're delighted to share that Edera has been named a Gartner® Cool Vendor™ in the Coolest Vendor Innovations in Container Management, authored by Lucas Albuquerque, Tony Iams, Richard Watson, Bhuvie Chhabra, Dennis Smith and published on 26 October 2026.

For us, this inclusion is a meaningful moment, especially for a company that set out to challenge one of infrastructure’s longest-standing assumptions. Edera started with simple convictions that containers aren’t a true isolation boundary, and isolation should not require a trade-off. For years, teams have been told they had to choose between the speed and density of containers and the security boundaries of VMs. We didn't accept that, and we built Edera to prove it didn't have to be true.

Why We Built Edera: Ending the Shared-Kernel Trade-off

Traditional Docker containers share the same, single underlying host Linux kernel. That shared kernel is the root of an entire class of risk, such as container escapes or kernel exploits that can expose every workload on the node and open the door to lateral movement.

Most security tooling responds to this by detecting attacks after they start. Edera takes a different approach. Our container-native, Type-1 hypervisor gives every workload its own dedicated Linux kernel inside an isolated zone, so no two workloads share the kernel state. Isolation comes from the architecture, not from a policy or an alert.

That makes Edera about prevention, not detection. A container escape or kernel-level exploit stays contained to a single zone by design. There’s nothing new for your team to learn, either. Edera runs standard OCI images on Kubernetes, and your existing images work unchanged.

Memory safety sits at the core, with a control plane written almost entirely in Rust. The same isolation extends across all untrusted workloads - from AI-generated code, autonomous agents, third-party software and multi-tenant apps, where shared infrastructure is fast becoming the biggest security challenge. Containers that move at full speed, with VM-grade walls between them. That’s what we set out to build.

What the Gartner Cool Vendor Recognition Means for Edera

As Gartner notes, “Enterprises increasingly view containers as the execution layer for AI agents, AI-generated code, commercial software and distributed cloud-native applications. This evolution is exposing the limitations of traditional container-management methods and increasing demand for stronger workload isolation, improved auditability and more autonomous operations.”

We see the shift toward prevention-first, hardened runtimes as one of the most important changes in how organizations secure cloud native and AI infrastructure. We're proud to be building at the center of it.

None of this happens without our team, who have spent years rethinking the container runtime from the hypervisor up, and without the customers, design partners and open source community who pushed us to make strong isolation simple to adopt. Thank you.
